  1. Download the Driver Update Utility for HP.

  2. Double-click on the program to run it. It will then scan your computer and identify any problem drivers. You will see a results page similar to the one below:

How to Install Drivers

After you have found the right driver, follow these simple instructions to install it.

  1. Power off your device.
  2. Disconnect the device from your computer.
  3. Reconnect the device and power it on.
  4. Double click the driver download to extract it.
  5. If a language option is given, select your language.
  6. Follow the directions on the installation program screen.
  7. Reboot your computer.

1. Download the Add Printer Wizard Driver from http://support.brother.com. Click here for instructions on how to navigate to our downloads page.
2. Once the driver has been downloaded, you will need to extract it.

How to extract the printer driver

a. Double-click on the file that you downloaded. A ZIP Self Decompression window will appear.
b. Click Browse, or type a path to the location where you'd like to save this file.
c. Click Decompress.

d. Click OK, once the decompression is successful.
e. Be sure to note the path where you saved the file, because you'll need to know this later.

3. Based on your connection method, do one of the following:

Local connection users

a. Connect the interface cable between your machine and your computer. The cable should be no longer than 6 feet, and connected directly between the two devices. Don't use a parallel-to-USB adapter cable.
b. Turn on your machine.
c. Do one of the following:
- Click StartPrinters and Faxes.
- Click StartControl PanelPrinters and Other HardwareView Installed Printers.
d. Click Add a printer.
e. Click
Next, when the 'Add Printer Wizard' appears.
f. Choose Add a Local Printerand then clickNext.
Don't check 'Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer.'
g. Based on your connection method, select a communication port. The available connection method will vary based on your machine's specifications:
- USB Users: Select a port labeled USB00X (The last 3 characters will be a number.)

- Parallel Users: Typically you should select LPT1.
If the USB port is not listed, then your computer and machine are not communicating or there is a problem with your computer. Try another USB cable or other ports on the computer. Don't attempt to create a port, the correct port should be created automatically.
h. Go to step 4.

a. Turn on your machine.
b. Make sure that your machine is connected to your network.
c. Do one of the following:
- Click StartPrinters and Faxes.
- Click StartControl PanelPrinters and Other HardwareView Installed Printers.
d. Click Add a printer.
e. Click
Next, when the 'Add Printer Wizard' appears.
f. Choose Add a Local Printerand then clickNext.
Don't check 'Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer.'
g. You'll need to select a communication port. The port name may vary based on your network configuration. Contact your network admin for help determining your network port name. To create a TCP/IP port using the machine's IP address or name, continue to step h.
h. Choose Create A New Port →Standard TCP/IP Port and then click Next.
i. Click Next on the Standard TCP/IP Port Wizard.
j. Type the IP address of your Brother machine in the field labeled Printer Name or IP Address.
k. Click Next.
- If you receive an error stating: 'A port with that name already exists.', then click OKand do the following:
- In the Port Namefield, slightly modify the auto-filled port name by adding a letter or additional number to the end. Do not change the text in the Printer Name or IP Address field.
- If you receive a window stating: 'Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard', then click Finish. Go to step 3-l.
- If you receive a window stating: 'Additional Port Information Required', then your computer is not communicating with your Brother machine. Check for these common causes of communication failure and try again:
- Your computer must be on the same network as the Brother machine.
- A firewall or security application may be blocking your Brother machine's communication. Click here for instructions on how to disable the Windows firewall. For other firewalls, refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Reboot the power on your router.
- Contact your computer manufacturer or network admin to troubleshoot any other network communication conflicts.
l. Click Close.
m. Click Apply. Go to step 4.

8. Select your model name and then click Next.
9. If you receive a message stating that a driver is already installed, select Replace Existing Driver and then click Next.
10. We recommend that you leave the default printer name. Select an option for setting the default printer. Once you have made your selections, click Next.
11. Select a Printer Sharing option and then click Next.

12. You may select to print a test page. Once you have made your selection, click Next.
13. Click Finish. The driver will now install.
You may receive a message stating 'The software you are installing for this hardware: Printers, has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility.' If this window appears, click Continue Anyway. The installation will continue until completion.
